Summer Study Abroad Deadlines Approaching

The application deadline for over 30 summer study abroad programs is fast approaching.

Whether it's a 12-week adventure across Europe as part of the Oxford Summer Program or a three-week study of stress and happiness in Italy, the Georgia Tech Office of International Education encourages all students to explore the possibility of pursuing an international experience.

"It's a great opportunity to get experience abroad by traveling, learning, and trying new things,” said Jesse Malone Ferreira, associate director of Education Abroad. “You're improving your global competencies and learning to engage with different cultures. You’re going to be doing that throughout life when you get into the workforce, so we think it's important for students to start developing those skills, and going abroad is a great way to do that while meeting academic goals at the same time."

Forty-four percent of Georgia Tech undergraduates participate in an international experience prior to graduating, and the Institute sends nearly 2,400 students abroad each year. The Office of International Education works with each student to ensure they find the program that best aligns with their major and keeps them on track for graduation.

Costs vary for each program, but as Ferreira explains, "It's a great opportunity, and sometimes students can participate in study abroad programs that are going to cost the same and occasionally less than a term here in Atlanta."

To learn more, students can visit the Education Abroad homepage to explore programs and schedule a virtual advising appointment, or email education.abroad@oie.gatech.edu.

Programs with remaining spaces for the summer include faculty-led programs, university exchange and the Global Research and Internship Program.
